Questa nave è l'ultima che si aggiunge alla flotta National Geographic, essa era denominata la LYNGEN, è stata aquistata dalla società norvegese Hurtigruten, che la ha rinominata National Geographic Explorer. La nave è stata sottoposta a lavori di ristrutturazione ed allestita con i più innovativi strumenti per esplorare il sottomarino, le regioni polari e le principali destinazioni in tutto il mondo. La nave sarà la settima della flotta Lindblad . Il nuovo nome della nave riflette la National Geographic Society's che professa l'ecoo turismo .Lo scopo è rendere le spedizioni quanto più confortevoli possibili, al fine di consentire anche ai non addetti ai lavori di poter partecipare alle spedizioni scientifiche e diricerca. Questa è destinata ad esplorare tutti gli angoli del mondo. La National Geographic Explorer sarà un state-of-the-art, una nave in grado di accogliere 148 ospiti in 81 cabine esterne. E 'completamente stabilizzata, il che consente di navigare anche nelle acque polari garantendo un costante comfort. A bordo vi è un medico a tempo pieno ,personale specializzato nei sottomarini, specialista di benessere, terapeuta e video Cronista. Il ponte di comando è "Open Bridge" politica permette agli ospiti di conoscere l'arte della navigazione e di state-of-the-art delle apparecchiature di navigazione.
