Questa nave fa parte di 12 dragamine di tipo HUNT costruiti nel cantiere VOSPER THORNYCROFT (Portsmouth-Inghilterra). Costruito con plastica rinforzata con vetro (GRP). Etrata in servizio nel giugno del 1987 per la La Royal Navy britannica e denominata HMS BERKELEY (M40). Il 6 FEB 2001 fu ceduta alla Grecia. Il 28 FEBBRAIO 2001 Il comandante R.S.Salvetas divenne il comandante e da allora la nave fu chiamata HMS KALLISTO (M-63). Il 30 MAR 2001 La nave parti da Portsmouthe l'11 aprile 2001 raggiunse la base navale Salamina dopo le soste a Malaga e Messina. Questa è la prima nave della Marina ellenica a portare il nome Kallisto. La nave è una nave contromisure (MCMV), in grado di spazzare e cacciare le mine con metodi meccanici, magnetici e acustici di giorno e di notte. Il ruolo principale di caccia alle mine viene svolto utilizzando il sistema di caccia alla miniera Acoustic Mk 2 che comprende Sonar 193M mod 1 e sistemi di smaltimento. Il ruolo principale di estrazione mineraria viene svolto utilizzando la spazzata a filo Mk 8, la spazzata magnetica Mk 14 e la spazzata acustica (generatore acustico trainato) .HS KALLISTO è in grado di 13 nodi avanti su Diesel Drive e 5 nodi su Azionamento ausiliario (idraulico) e ha una resistenza di almeno 1500 nm a 12 nodi.

Martedì 27 ottobre 2020, intorno alle 07:30, nella zona marittima del Golfo Saronico, è stato speronato da una nave mercantile . La Marina intraprende tutte le azioni necessarie per far fronte all’incidente”, si legge in una nota della Marina ellenica. Secondo i rapporti, Kallisto stava uscendo dal porto quando la nave mercantile Maersk Launcheston, battente bandiera portoghese, si è scontrata con la sua poppa provocando gravi danni e afflusso di acqua. A bordo della nave da guerra c'erano 27 persone e, secondo ad un ufficiale della guardia costiera, due di loro sono rimasti leggermente feriti dopo essere caduti in mare durante l'incidente. I due feriti sono stati evacuati e trasportati all'Ospedale Navale di Atene. I rapporti aggiungono che il resto dell'equipaggio non ha subito incidenti.

The ship is a Mine Countermeasures Vessel (MCMV), capable of sweeping and hunting mines by mechanical, magnetic and acoustic methods by day and night.The principal minehunting role is carried out using the Mine Hunting System Acoustic Mk 2 which comprises Sonar 193M mod 1, and Disposal systems.The principal minesweeping role is carried out using the Wire sweep Mk 8, the Magnetic sweep Mk 14, and the Acoustic sweep (Towed Acoustic Generator).HS KALLISTO is capable of 13 Knots ahead on Diesel Drive and 5 Knots on Auxiliary (hydraulic) Drive and has an endurance at least 1500 n.m. at 12 Knots.

On Tuesday, October 27, 2020 and around 07:30 in the sea area of the Saronic Gulf, a merchant ship collided with Kallisto. The Navy undertakes all the necessary actions to deal with the incident,” said a Hellenic Navy statement. According to reports, Kallisto was coming out of the port when the cargo ship, identified as Portuguese-flagged Maersk Launcheston, collided with its stern resulting in a major damage and inflow of water.There were 27 people on board the naval vessel and, according to a coast guard official, two of them were slightly injured after falling into the sea during the incident. The two injured personnel were evacuated and taken to the Athens Naval Hospital. The reports added that the remaining crew are well and safe.
