INFO
On 24th august 1985, only three years aged, left the harbour of Siracusa and heading the ship AGIP Milano on the drilling-well "Nilde", at abt. 12 NM from Capo San Marco with the dawn lights, due to heavy fog the AGIP Murex had been struck by Egyptian Cargo "Alhambra" directed to Alexandria. The stroke resulted very strong and fatal, the fore of Alhambra broke the hull in the Engine Room. The master of Alhambra ordered "Engine Astern" then the two ships were divided but the unplugged leak caused the immediate list and sinking at 250m. of AGIP Murex. In the few minutes before the sinking AGIP Murex transmitted her Distress Call received by Fishermen boats and the Patrol boats of Mazara del Vallo Coast Guard. Soon the Fregate Fasan, an Italian Navy helicopter and tugs from Trapani and Porto Empedocle reached the area of the collision. Alhambra recovered six of the eleven men of the Murex crew, two were found dead and three probably did follow the sunk ship. The five victims were: Recovered: 1st Officer Vincenzo Paoli, 34 y.o. from Camaiore 1st Engineer Francesco Di Sivo, 38 y.o., from Sorrento Lost: Crew's Cook Stefano Dammaro, 54 y.o., from Torre del Greco Sailor Michele Calò, 38 y.o., from Molfetta Stoker Calogero Fiorino, 29 y.o., from Porto Empedocle Cured by Paolo SERRAVALLE
